On April 30, 1988 the curtain came down on one of the most remarkable careers ever seen at West Ham United. Billy Bonds, aged 41 years and 225 days set a marker of 799 appearances, two FA Cup final successes, one promotion, a League Cup final, European Cup Winners Cup final, four Hammer of the Year awards, 61 goals and the capturing of hearts, minds and souls of millions of Hammers supporters the world over.
